This is an 1864
lithograph by Harriet Scott, titled "The Tasmanian Tiger (Thylacinus
cynocephalus)". It was featured in Gerard Krefft's "The Mammals
of Australia", 1871. Both Harriet and her sister Helena were
educated by their father, Alexander Walker Scott, an entomologist who was
a trustee of the Australian Museum from 1862-79. From him, Harriet
gained a considerable knowledge of Australian animals and plants.
Her paintings earned high praise from the Entomological Society and she
was elected, like her sister Helena, as an honorary member.
