| The following
seven film clips comprise nearly all of the motion picture footage known
to exist of living thylacines. Films 1 through 5 were taken at the
Hobart Zoo in Tasmania, and films 6 and 7 at the London Zoo. All
of the films are silent - no sound was recorded when they were originally
made.
I have provided two different ways in which
you can view the films. You can either download them in the form
of MPEG media files that you can watch using Windows Media Player
or other media player of your choice, or view them directly on web pages
through a Java applet.
The MPEG files, which are in full motion
(30 frames per second) and have a resolution of 352 X 240 pixels, take
somewhat longer to download but are convenient if you want to watch the
films repeatedly right from your computer's hard drive. Another advantage
of the MPEGs is that they can be viewed in full screen mode using
your media player application's controls (press Alt+Enter to do
so in Windows Media Player, for example).
The Java applet versions are also shown
at 352 X 240 pixels, but have a frame rate of 10 frames per second in order
to decrease loading time (except for film 7, which is shown at 15 frames
per second due to its very short length).
Both forms of presentation are of good
quality, but which method you choose for viewing is entirely up to you
based upon what is most convenient for your particular situation.
