THE THYLACINE IN ART:

In this illustration by Friedrich Wilhelm Kuhnert, produced in 1890, several thylacines confront a large adult kangaroo - probably not a very common scenario.  The image was featured in the German magazine "Die Gartenlaube" (The Garden Arbor), 1890.  The thylacines are portrayed with obvious dog-like characteristics, and indeed, many artists, even well into the 20th century, used the canine form as reference when depicting the species.

Other illustrations of the thylacine by Kuhnert can be seen here, and here.
