THE THYLACINE IN CAPTIVITY:
- THE HISTORICAL THYLACINE FILMS -
(film 9)
.

.
Shortly after their discovery of film 8, the research team of Linnard, Holmes and Williams made another remarkable find in the National Film & Sound Archives in Canberra - an unknown clip (duration 21 seconds) of 35mm film taken at the Hobart Zoo by Sidney Cook, dating to March 1935, which was part of a travelogue entitled "Tasmania the Wonderland".  Sidney Cook was a pioneering Australian cinematographer and Brisbane cinema proprietor who made short travelogues for screening at country theatres on the mainland.  The film shows the Kaine Thylacine pacing around within its enclosure, with Arthur Reid and an unknown young girl beating the enclosure fence with their fists in an effort to excite the tiger.
