THE THYLACINE IN ART:
- NATURAL HISTORY ILLUSTRATION -

This illustration, drawn by Robert Kretschmer sometime before 1872, depicts a male thylacine attempting to subdue a inexplicably oversized platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus).  Although Tasmanian platypus are in fact considerably larger than average, with some adult males weighing up to 3 kg. (6.6 lb), they certainly do not come close to reaching the fantastic scale illustrated below.  Incidentally, no platypus predation by thylacines has ever been observed or recorded.

Another thylacine illustration by Kretschmer can be viewed here.
